Hexonomica is a geolocation-based game: your avatar moves on the real-world map using your device's GPS / browser geolocation API. Without geolocation access the game cannot determine where you are, so the map will not load. This page explains step by step how to enable geolocation on Android and Apple devices in Chrome, Firefox and Yandex Browser, plus Safari on Apple.
Two permissions, one feature
Geolocation in the browser is controlled by two separate switches: the operating system permission for the browser app and the permission inside the browser itself. If only one of them is on, the browser will still refuse to share your location. Below we cover both for every combination.
Android
Chrome
Open the Android system Settings.
Go to Apps → Chrome (or "All apps" → "Chrome").
Open Permissions → Location and choose Allow (or "Allow only while using the app").
Back in Chrome, tap the ⋮ menu (top-right) → Settings → Site settings → Location.
Make sure the toggle is on and "Ask before accessing" is enabled.
Reload Hexonomica — when prompted by the browser, choose Allow for location access.
Firefox
Open the Android system Settings.
Go to Apps → Firefox → Permissions → Location and select Allow.
In Firefox, tap the ⋮ menu → Settings → Site permissions → Location.
Enable location access and tap Clear permissions if you want to reset previous decisions for every site.
Reload Hexonomica and answer Allow in the system prompt.
Yandex Browser
Open the Android system Settings.
Go to Apps → Yandex → Permissions → Location and select Allow.
In Yandex Browser, tap the ⚙ menu (or "≡") → Settings → Sites → Geolocation.
Turn on Ask before accessing.
Reload Hexonomica — confirm the request when the dialog appears.
Apple (iOS / iPadOS)
On Apple devices location access for every browser is controlled by iOS itself. The browser settings can only refine what iOS already allows.
Safari
Open iOS Settings.
Scroll down to Privacy & Security → Location Services and turn the master switch on.
Scroll further down to Safari Websites and set its location access to While Using the App.
Open Hexonomica in Safari and tap Allow on the location prompt.
If you previously denied access for the site, go to Safari → AA → Website Settings → Location for the page and choose Ask or Allow.
Chrome
Open iOS Settings.
Go to Privacy & Security → Location Services and make sure the master switch is on.
Scroll to Chrome in the app list and choose While Using the App.
In Chrome, open the ⋮ menu → Settings → Content Settings → Location and confirm it is not blocked.
Reload Hexonomica and tap Allow in the prompt.
Firefox
Open iOS Settings.
Go to Privacy & Security → Location Services and turn the master switch on.
Find Firefox in the app list and set it to While Using the App.
In Firefox open the ☰ menu → Settings → Permissions → Location and make sure it is enabled.
Reload Hexonomica and tap Allow when prompted.
Yandex Browser
Open iOS Settings.
Go to Privacy & Security → Location Services and turn the master switch on.
Scroll to Yandex in the app list and choose While Using the App.
In Yandex Browser open ⚙ → Sites → Geolocation and ensure the toggle is on.
Reload Hexonomica and confirm the location request.
If the map still does not load
Private / incognito mode. Permissions granted in a normal window are usually reset in private windows. Allow the location again from inside the private session.
Custom Android skins. On MIUI, EMUI, OneUI and similar skins there is often a separate "Autostart", "Background activity" or "Battery saver" restriction that blocks the browser from accessing location. Disable the restriction for your browser if it is listed.
VPN or corporate network. Some VPNs and corporate networks block the geolocation API. Try disabling the VPN or switching networks.
Outdated browser. Update Chrome / Firefox / Yandex / Safari to the latest version — older builds may not support the modern permission flow.
